EXT. CONEY ISLAND, NY (EARLY MORNING)
I love the ocean, even though I grew up in the mountain city of Bogota. When I was about 16, my best friend and I decided that one day we would move to New York to become artists. Today, I’ve lived in the city for over a decade, and every day I still pursue the dream of becoming a true writer.
Here, I've learned that a true artist needs to always be creating, be curious and stay true to yourself. When I’m missing the Colombian mountains, I think of one of my favorite writers, Julio Cortázar. He was an Argentinean living in Paris, a city where writers went in the 1950's. It was the place he realized that no matter where he lived, he would still be a Latin American writer wherever he traveled.
This is just the beginning of my writing journey.
